Herbert V. Kohler anti-unionism speeches, and related publications, 1955-1961.

The collection consists of texts of four of his anti-union speeches: two copies of In Freedom's Cause (1956), given before the Freedom Club in Los Angeles, California; Can a Free Economy Tolerate Union Violence? (1957), given before the Economic Club of Detroit; and The American Tragedy (1961), given at the 39th annual Texas Manufacturers Association Conference of Texas Industry, in Fort Worth, Texas. Also included is an anti-union issue of the Kohler Company employee magazine, Kohler of Kohler News (April 1955), and a Chicago newsletter, Executives' Club News, featuring an interview of Herbert V. Kohler (December 16, 1955). These materials shed light on the arguments behind the bitter 1954 to 1960 strike at Kohler Company.
